Gator basketball

Gators basketball has steadied the ship and snapped a losing streak with wins over South Puget Sound and Grays Harbor.
The Gators came away with an 84-56 victory behind Cam Vaughn’s 26-point game that ends its losing streak and pulls them closer to a .500 record. Tanner Wallen came off the bench scoring 20 points with Trey Anderson following with 9 points of his own.

After losses to Pierce College and Highline, the Gators came back to put another one in the win column. So far, the star shooting guard Anderson has been the team’s leading scorer with 15.6 points per game.
While carrying the torch, his team has been hit with some bad luck. Anderson said injuries and illnesses held the team back for a bit. Luckily, the team is getting back to full strength as players return ready to break away in the Northwest Athletic Conference.
Anderson has high hopes after the big win over the weekend.
“The biggest aspiration our team has right now is to win the next game,” said Anderson. “It’s hard to focus on the future when we still have many games left to play. All we can do is battle it out each game and take them one at a time.”
Coach Godfrey Drake echoed Anderson’s sentiment.
“I love being able to help our players find their voice and learn to be the best version of themselves,” he said. “I love my conversations with them and, of course, it’s fun to watch them compete. It definitely doesn’t feel like a job.”
Although the team lost its next game, losing to Tacoma (60-75), The Gators look to get back on track against Lower Columbia. You can catch this game live-streamed on the NWAC website (https://nwacsportsnetwork.com/greenriver/ (Links to an external site.)) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
