Helen S. Smith Gallery Showcases ‘Like and Subscribe’ Art Exhibit

Students from the course Art 180 showcase amazing artworks in”Like and Subscribe” Exhibition.

Helen S. Smith Gallery in Green River College fosters an in-depth preparation for the study and creation of art. On campus, a student will undertake a program of study which helps each student to find a balance between aesthetics and technique in their creative process and expression. Through the development of strong problem-solving skills, the student will learn to discuss the theoretical and practical meaning of their work.

At Green River, students can develop their ideas, build strong techniques, and create a competitive portfolio.

Amanda Jenkinson, 19, has her artwork displayed in the gallery. Amanda has been drawing since middle school and became serious about drawing when she was a senior in high school. She plans to complete her studies in Fine Arts when she transfers to Western Washington University. Surrealism, somewhat creepy art, and detailed pieces are the main themes seen in the work she displayed.

Now a sophomore at GRC Amanda has had experience with exhibits as she has had 4 pieces of her art displayed in the gallery last Spring.

Huong Nguyen, AGE, also has their artwork displayed in the gallery. Huong said, “The artist must train not only [their] eyes but also [their] soul”. Her dream is to be a graphic designer, but her deep love with paintings and drawings. Nguyen had never opened the artist’s door until she came to the United States, she mentioned that some international students call it “The dreamland”, and they never stop asking whether it is true or not. For some, the answer is yes. Step by step, she is learning to be a great artist in this dreamland.

Her artwork always connects to her soul by colors, shadings, and metaphorical meanings. Nguyen loves making different tones of colors in order to create depth and life for her drawings. The lines and the shading that she draws and makes is the spirit of the artwork.

The closing reception will be held Dec. 7 from noon to 1 p.m.
