Music Monday: XLovers Light Up The Stage

Green River students jam out with Music Monday performers Jacob Ames and London Jackson from the band X Lovers.

Singer/songwriter London Jackson, 19, and drummer/producer Jacob Ames, 18, sated Green River students musical appetite during lunch in the Student Union building with pure talent.

The duo played hit pop songs with their own musical twist, highlighting both individual’s talents. Songs such as “She will be loved” by Maroon 5, and “Summertime Sadness” by Lana Del Rey were played.

Each song had upbeat sound but with a slow soulful vibe added to it. Jackson’s and Amen’s drew students to the event through a combination of clean vocals, skillful guitar, and unique percussion beats.

The two California singers also performed their own original song called “Hearts” which was recently featured in the movie ‘Piece of Cake’. Performing with style the two really knew how to light up a stage. They not only entertained but, connected with the crowd joking with students as they sang along to the music.

The pair grew up listening to 70s rock n’ roll from their parent’s record collections. Later the two discovered many different styles of music like pop, hip-hop, rap, and techno, which they drew inspiration from.

Some of their favorites included ‘The Stones’ and ‘Radiohead’ with each artist and genre fueling their passion for music.

They drew musical inspiration from them all and in the process, they found their own sound. This duo finds risk, rebellion, and pure intoxication in pursuing their signature sound called POP N’ ROLL.

Music is a hard industry to break into because it can be harsh and judgmental but that hasn’t discouraged X Lovers “We don’t really care what people think and that’s been working way better for us.”

The pair complemented each other well during the performance. Each note had musical authenticity and confidence that not many artists have, which is what made the performance very moving. The beat’s from Amen’s the Cajon instrument were perfectly complimented Jackson’s guitar strumming creating an incredible aura.

The performers seemed to feed off the other’s vibe and energy allowing their unique sound to echo throughout the room.

This is only the beginning for X Lovers and they don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Ames and Jackson are breaking onto the scene with a passion and work ethic that could carry them to the top. Their advice for those that wish to pursue a career in music is, “Do what comes from your heart.” The two also encourage others to find their own authentic sound adding “If you’re trying to be like somebody else that person already did it better than you so be you.”
