Seahawks Update

By Corbin Ferguson

The Seahawks are third in their division through week five. With a losing record of 2-3, they are two games behind the second place Los Angeles Rams, and three games behind the division leading Arizona Cardinals.

The Rams are one game ahead of Seattle at 4-1 and the undefeated Cardinals are sitting comfortably in first place. Based on how these other two teams have been playing, the chances of the Seahawks winning the NFC West seem slim.

According to NFL.com, Russell Wilson is now ranked 24th, with a total of 1,196 passing yards. Fellow NFC West quarterbacks, Matthew Stafford and Kyler Murray, place in third and sixth place.

Although Wilson has some of the fewest passing yards, he is one of just three quarterbacks in the league to have thrown only one interception. This single interception led to the NFL giving Wilson a passer rating of over 125, outscoring Murray’s 113 and Stafford’s 113.2 point ratings.

“It’s not like our offensive line has gotten any better.” said Megan Gooding, a college student and longtime Seahawks fan. “They allowed three sacks against the 49ers and Russell Wilson has now been sacked 13 times this season.”

“Their offense is either boom or bust, and their defense is not good.” said Josh Jazmati, an employee at a local chain, Frankie’s Pizza.

“With a tough upcoming schedule, it’ll be interesting to see how the relationship between Wilson, coach Pete Carroll, and the rest of the team grows if they continue to struggle.”

Jazmati said the big division win against the 49ers could plant a seed to help grow their success this season. They’ve allowed over 450 yards per game, average, placing them last out of all 32 teams. If they plan to succeed, their defense needs to step up.
