Trump’s Ban Affects Us All

Not only are ESL students being affected by the recent ban, but international students as well.

Yasin Najibi, 19, an international student from Iran, Shiraz, is feeling upset about Trump’s executive orders. His body language was quiet and scared during our interview.

“Trump made everyone afraid of Muslims,” Najibi said looking down at the floor.

This ban is causing Najibi to rethink his plans for the future and where he is going to attend university.

Najibi is planning to apply to a university in Canada, since the future of the United States is looking so bleak. He never expected to ever consider going to school in Canada, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Najibi’s first choice attending the University of California, a top rated school in the U.S. But due to this ban, he forced himself to change his mind and plan to transfer to Canada.

Trump swears that he did not ban the seven countries because of their religious beliefs, but because those countries are listed as the risk of terrorism. Even so, Najibi thinks the ban affects Muslims being terrified by other people.

Najibi is claiming that this ban does not allow him or his family to visit each other.  If he goes back to his home country, he won’t be able to enter the U.S. again.  If his parents want to visit him, the visa won’t get accepted.

“I want to see my parents,” Najibi said.

He is also concerned about what will happen in the future.  He thinks the ban will have a lasting effect even after the proposed 90 days are over.

“If Trump gets re-elected and stays as a president for the next eight years, the situation would be [the] same,” Najibi said.

The 90 day ban has not only influenced him for the next three months, but it is going to affect his whole life.

He had a plan to stay in the United States, study in a high-ranked school and get a degree. The bright future has vanished in his mind and started to reset his life plan.

The ban has given a big effect to a lot of the students at Green River College. Najibi is not the only one who is struggling from fear of what is going to happen in the United States.

At the end Najibi said, “I am happy that I am in Washington State, a liberal state in the US”.

The effect on international students from the seven countries is causing students to be worried about their future.
